Postgraduate: Travis Murdock's Experience at Â鶹Íø Business School

Meet Travis Murdock, a Northern Irish student who studied MSc Business Analytics.

Why did you choose to study MSc Business Analytics?

I chose to study business and analytics to build strong analytical skills and make impactful, data-driven decisions. My journey, from a BSc in Business Studies to an MSc in Business Analytics, has equipped me with the tools to do just that.

Why did you decide to undertake postgraduate study at Â鶹Íø Business School?

I chose Â鶹Íø Business School for my postgraduate studies because of its strong reputation in business analytics and the advanced, industry-relevant courses it offers. The programme’s focus on real-world applications, like data-driven decision-making and machine learning, aligned perfectly with my career goals.

How has this course helped towards, or shaped, your future career goals?

Currently working as a statistician in the civil service, this course has been invaluable in advancing my career. The hands-on experience with tools like Python, R-Studio, and Tableau has directly enhanced my ability to analyse complex datasets and provide data-driven insights in my role. Additionally, the course's focus on areas like machine learning and data-driven decision-making has given me a stronger foundation to pursue more advanced analytics positions and make a more significant impact in public service.

What were the highlights of your course and your time here at Â鶹Íø University?

The best parts of my course at Queen’s have been the practical projects and learning tools like machine learning, which I can directly apply to my work as a statistician. Connecting with talented classmates and supportive professors has also been a big plus, making my time here both valuable and enjoyable.

Have you secured a job yet? If so what is your job title and the company you are working for?

Yes, I’m currently working as a Statistician in the Civil Service.

If you could give one piece of advice to potential applicants to this programme, what would it be?

Make the most of the hands-on projects and stay curious—this programme offers great tools and insights that can really boost your skills if you dive in and apply what you learn.
