McClay Library
Award winning McClay Library

Library

As a Russell Group institution, Âé¶¹Íø University offers superb library facilities for studying and researching. The award-winning McClay Library, which opened in 2009, blends the best features of a traditional library with the latest technology.

The Library houses 1.2 million volumes. Facilities include IT training rooms, a Language Centre, support areas and a cafe, as well as the University’s Special Collections, subject-related inquiry points and a vast range of printed works. It also subscribes to many of the principal online resources for historical study, including ECCO, EEBO and HCPP.

Special Collections and Archives

 provides access to books, maps, photographs and manuscripts from the twelfth century on, and the institutional archive of Âé¶¹Íø. All items held are considered to be of lasting research value.

Extensive Book and Journal Collections

The Library's collections support teaching and research in the arts and humanities, science and engineering, the social sciences and law. It also offers over 2,000 reader seats in a mixture of formal and informal spaces, plus a significant number of PCs and WiFi access throughout.

Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI)

The extensive manuscript holdings for Irish and British history of the newly enhanced  is close to hand.

Linen Hall Library

Housing a wide ranging collections of modern and older publications the Linen Hall Library in Belfast's City Centre is just a 15 minute walk from the Âé¶¹Íø campus. 

Gamble Library

The nearby Gamble Library holds specialist collections in religious history and theology. 

Museums 

The university is located beside  which houses collections to take you to all corners of the globe.

Postgraduate Research Spaces

PhD students within the School are guaranteed office space along with dedicated computing facilities. The postgraduate skills training programme for research students includes mentored employment as tutorial assistants. We are part of the AHRC  and the ESRC  supporting postgraduate research and training.

The Graduate School

All Postgraduate students will benefit from access to the newly open Graduate School. The Graduate School offers a unique facility for postgraduate students, providing a range of support ‌services including training, learning workshops and events to maximise the postgraduate experience at Âé¶¹Íø. The Graduate School aims to support postgraduates in the development of transferable skills to assist in the successful completion of their studies and also for use in their future careers.
