Lukáš Senft

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. My research interests include food production, multispecies ethnography, and the modes of expertise on and use of medicinal plants in public healthcare and self-care. I began as a documentary filmmaker and still occasionally collaborate on projects that sit at the intersection of film art and social sciences. I've worked as a film programmer, editor of a literary journal, and journalist. Currently, I combine my passion for plants with my academic work.

I was the editor of "A Forager’s Notebook: Invitation to Drift with(in) Tastes, Crops, and Landscapes". The booklet documents a three-day foraging workshop, presenting a de-romanticized adventure that leads not only to moments of disillusionment but also to opportunities for rethinking and reshaping our relationship with food-producing landscapes.

I co-authored a book-length interview with Czech entomologist and Catholic priest Matúš Kocian on ecological spirituality.

Will LeFleur and I co-wrote an article about salty watermelon and the standardization of taste expectations.

I collaborated on "Methods for Co/Sensing Microbes", a catalog of microbial methods that emerged from a workshop held in May 2023.
