Ioannis Tsioulakis
I am an ethnomusicologist, musician and anthropologist, who has researched and practised music in Greece, Ireland and the UK. As an active member of the Greek band Checkmate in Two Flats, we recently released the book/recording project ‘’, to add to our 20-year-long discography including five more studio albums. I also perform with Belfast-based band Revue, who will release their first studio album ‘Why Can’t You Stay’ in September 2023 (you can listen to their single ‘Love’s Executioner’ ).
My teaching includes courses on the anthropology of performance and creativity, music and politics, at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have published widely on music and cosmopolitanism, as well as artistic labour and precarity, most notably in his 2020 book .
