Draft UKRI Research Data Policy
UKRI is on the management and sharing of research data and other digital outputs arising from UKRI-funded research. The policy aims to provide “clearer and more consistent expectations and support best practice for different research domains and data types.” It emphasises making data as open as possible, implementing FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, and ensuring responsible data stewardship throughout the research lifecycle. This policy will replace existing council-specific data policies in 2026, making it essential for researchers to understand its implications for funding, data management planning, and publication practices.
The is open for stakeholder feedback until July 2025. It proposes a set of common principles and requirements for research data and metadata.
The Research Data Management (RDM) Subgroup of the Open Research Group is coordinating a collective response to the Draft UKRI Research Data Policy. To support this, the Subgroup has organised an in-person meeting to discuss and draft the response at 2.30 pm on Monday 9th June 2025 in the Gillespie Room in the McClay Library.
As this policy is currently under consultation, we encourage all academic staff and researchers to engage with its content and contribute to the University’s coordinated response. Your insights will help shape how the policy is implemented and ensure it reflects the realities of research across disciplines. All colleagues are welcome to contribute.
