A Day in the Life of a Marketing Student at Â鶹Íø

It’s the first week of semester two of my studies in Â鶹Íø Business School and here’s what a typical Tuesday looks like in my life!

7.30am - 9am:

I usually wake up around 7.30am to give myself enough time to get up, get ready, have breakfast and make my way to class. I like to give myself time for a coffee before class as coffee is an essential to me and a part of my daily routine! Today I got up at 7.30am, washed my face, brushed my teeth, did my hair and packed my tote bag; and then set off for the drive to campus.

My usual choice for breakfast is a takeaway jambon and sausage roll from Centra while walking to the Â鶹Íø Business School, but from time to time I like to make myself a yoghurt bowl to switch things up! My drive to class typically takes about 15 minutes and I park up and then head over to the Business School to get my day started.

10am - 12am:

Today was our induction week for semester two and our Research Methods class started later in the day than usual, so I made time for myself to meet up with some of my course friends for a coffee and catch up before we went to our class. We like to meet up at the Business Beans Café in the Student Hub at the Business School as it is cheap, cosy and close to class.

I ordered a coffee, met up with my friends and we looked over the module handbook for our different modules we are taking this semester, which include Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Analytics, International Marketing and Research Methods. I also had the opportunity and time to look over some results and feedback from semester one and plan for this semester for any improvements I want to make with my work.

12pm - 1.40pm:

Before our Research Methods class we had our semester two induction class from 12 – 1.40pm. This class gave us valuable insights into the two pathways offered to Marketing Masters students in semester three, the two pathways being either placement or a dissertation module. Grace gave us information on the application process for the placement pathway as well as important information on dissertation topics and deadlines.

This induction to semester two was beneficial as it answered a lot of questions I was having about this semester and next semester. It was nice to break the ice of semester two with an induction and seeing everyone on the course again after such a long break!

1.40pm - 2pm:

I then went with my friends to the common area of the Business School to have our lunch and chill while we waited for our next class, which was our Research Methods class. I brought a packed lunch of tuna pasta and got another coffee (my third today, oops). The Business School provides so many different seating areas around the building close to class, so it is convenient and Business Beans Café has delicious food if you haven’t brought packed lunch!

2pm - 4pm:

I then went to my next class of the day which was our Research Methods lecture. This class was an induction for the module, and we went over our expectations, course content and assignment information. We then did some group activities, went over different case studies and then finished up the class at 4pm, and that was me finished with university for the day.

5.30pm - 6.30pm:

After class was finished up for the day, I walked towards the main Lanyon Building and headed straight to the McClay Library to grab some of my module’s core textbooks and get ahead for the semester with my readings. I stayed in the library for around 30 minutes, sourcing different reading material for the week and then took myself to Tim Hortons to treat myself to dinner before heading home.

7pm - 10pm

I got home around 7pm and spent some time with my mum catching up with the Traitors, and then I set my alarms and got my bag ready for the next day of university as I had an early start with a 9am lecture for Marketing Analytics. I then got into bed around 9pm and read my book for an hour before finally going to bed.

MSc Marketing | Postgraduate Student | NI

Hi, I’m Scott, I’m 25 years old and I am from Belfast. I am currently an MSc Marketing Student at Â鶹Íø Business School and so far, I have been absolutely loving my course.

In my free time I love to spend time with friends and family and try new bars and restaurants around the city, as well as short trips to other places around the island. My hobbies include hiking, travelling, content creation and reading.

This year I am trying to build my portfolio in Marketing and get ahead for graduation and the job field once my time in Â鶹Íø is over. I am also trying to improve my fitness by going to the gym more, running more and eating more healthily. I am currently a student ambassador for the University so you may see me from time to time on the Â鶹Íø socials or around campus.
