#DouglassWeek is an annual event series that celebrates and furthers the legacy of Frederick Douglass around the world. The week is organized by the US nonprofit The Globe Lane Initiative and includes events, exhibitions, performances, programs and projects from a wide network of local and international contributors. Each year, we provide a platform for participants to respond to the story of Douglass and other changemakers through historical, creative, academic, cultural and other lenses, reflect on contemporary issues related to his life and legacy and continue the work for freedom, equality, liberation and justice.
Our programming includes discussions, performances, exhibitions and events led by international Douglass scholars, historians and researchers, along with artists, musicians, poets, community groups and activists.
This year, our programme includes many special contributions from staff and students from Queen’s University Belfast!
