For the past two years QUB Centre for Children's Rights, Ulster University and Strathclyde University have been working in partnership with young people from the Scouts NI and Belfast City Youth Council to undertake research on Respect and Disrespect in Children's and Adolescents Lives (RADICAL).
Over 5,000 children and young people across NI took part in the research through surveys, focus groups and interviews. The young co-researchers presented their work and resources at a packed event in Belfast City Hall last month. All the resources from the project, including practice briefings, are available here.
We are now running a series of sectoral workshops to share the findings and key learning. Given that youth work was consistently discussed as a place of respect, this will be the focus of our first work on 15th April 2026 at 10am at Clifton House, Belfast. In the workshop we will present some findings and resources, consider best practice, how the data might be used and the learning transferred to other areas of practice.
One of the young co-researchers will join us to share their experiences of youth work. We have also written a series of blogs on the value of youth work, based on some of the data. These can be found .
