Overview
The James MacQuitty Law Scholarship was established in 2002 with funding from the MacQuitty Charitable Foundation, in honour of James MacQuitty QC. A distinguished member of the English and Northern Ireland Bars, Mr MacQuitty was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Queen’s University Belfast in 1987.
This scholarship supports law graduates from Northern Ireland who wish to pursue a Masters degree in the School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast in any law or law-related field.

The scholarship is tenable for one academic year and provides coverage of course fees along with a stipend, currently valued at £17,600.
The stipend is disbursed in three instalments: the first upon enrolment in September, the second at the beginning of the second semester in February (subject to satisfactory progress), and the final instalment upon submission of the LLM dissertation.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must:
- Hold "home student" status for tuition fees.
- Be ordinarily resident in Northern Ireland.
- Have been accepted into a Masters degree programme in the School of Law at Âé¶¹Íø.
Exclusions
- Candidates receiving any other scholarship or financial award are not eligible.
- Recipients of this scholarship may not reapply in subsequent years.
