Â鶹Íø welcomes Dr Moses Li and academic delegates from Zhejiang University and Nanjing University for the unveiling of the Siku Quanshu in the McClay Library.

The visit marked the formal presentation of the Siku Quanshu, generously donated by educational philanthropist Dr Moses Li, to Queen’s Special Collections. Commissioned in the 18th century, the collection brings together thousands of classical works across philosophy, history, literature and the Confucian classics. Its arrival in Belfast represents not only a significant addition to the University’s research resources, but also a meaningful connection between scholarly traditions across cultures and time.

The delegation included colleagues from Zhejiang University and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, who joined academic and professional staff from across Queen’s, including the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics, the Library, and International Partnerships.

The occasion provided an opportunity to continue conversations with colleagues at Zhejiang University, building on existing links, while also welcoming new connections through engagement with visiting academics from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

Following the unveiling, a round-table symposium brought together colleagues to explore shared academic interests, with discussions ranging from historical research to the role of collections in supporting scholarship. The conversations reflected a shared curiosity and openness to future collaboration.

The visit was made possible through the efforts of colleagues across the University, including Dr Aglaia De Angeli, whose academic engagement has played a key role in fostering connections with partners in China, as well as teams in the McClay Library and Special Collections and Archives.
